PlayStation veteran Shuhei Yoshida, who’s currently its head of indie development, has said that he doesn’t want to see the games industry becoming too dominated by live service games. Speaking with The Guardian, Yoshida said that having too many live service games in annual top 10 lists would be “a bit boring” for him.

“The games industry will never cease to be a fun place,” said Yoshida. “The industry keeps growing and growing, and I hope it keeps supporting and chasing creative ideas and people who try to work on new things.”

“You don’t want to see the Top 10 games every year being almost the same, all games becoming service games,” he continued. “That would be a bit boring, for me.”

Sony hasn’t been shy about its ambitions for live service games, however. The company has stated quite a few times that it wants to expand its reach in the live service market, and over the last year, has acquired studios like Bungie, and more recently, Firewalk Studios, to help bolster its abilities in developing and releasing live service games.

Sony is yet to officially announce any new game in that arena, though the company has previously stated that it wants to release quite a few live service games in the near future. The company has also stated that, despite its ambitions for live service titles, it will still release single-player narrative-based games.
