4. Saturnday
It was 1995 and Sega wanted to make a big splash at the first ever E3 convention. There's a big difference between a pleasant surprise and an unwelcome shock though, as Sega announced that the Sega Saturn would launch that day, four months ahead of its intended release. That Saturday was dubbed “Saturnday” in a clever marketing ploy and, though it may have been a cool idea for consumers, it angered a lot of third party developers who needed more time on their launch games. Not the smartest developer relations move from Sega, and one that arguably began their downward spiral out of the hardware sector. On the plus side, at least it spawned a suitably nineties commercial.
