Top 10 Most Memorable Shouts In Video Games

3. Do a barrel roll!

Serving as both a command and an infuriating rallying cry to all gamers born in the 90s, few tutorial based shouts are as memorable as Peppy’s classic line. Star Fox 64 is renowned for some of its more annoyingly humorous elements (I mean seriously, how retarded is that stupid frog?), and the “Do a barrel roll” command is easily the most memorable. It single handedly created a plethora of internet parodies, and that’s got to be worth something right?

2. Hadouken!

Special moves are the hallmark of a good fighting game, and few are as iconic as the Hadouken. The flashy graphics, textbook execution and devastating tactical versatility are all well and good, but it is the techniques name being shouted aloud (by both your character and yourself depending on how much you get into it) that really makes it such a classic. You can also add metsu or shinku as a prefix if you really want to mess your opponent up.

1. Snake’s death

Now here is one sound clip that you won’t be able to get out of your head without some form of surgery. Metal Gear Solid was one of the first games that I remember being markedly impressive for its polished voice acting. It made for even simple lines becoming infused with a subtlety and emotion that other contemporary games were missing. Even just hearing the main character’s name shouted whenever he died had an energy and vibrancy to it. It lives on in the hearts of gamers as a result.
