Black Mesa
Starting as a free mod in 2012 before entering early access in 2015 and finally releasing in 2020, Black Mesa is the culmination of years of dedication to the original Half-Life. It deftly recreates key story sequences while improving level design, revamping NPC and enemy models, adding even more compelling story elements and so much more. The overhaul to Xen alone has to be seen to be believed. Half-Life was so close to being perfect at launch and Black Mesa somehow, someway manages to surpass it with flying colors.
