Resident Evil 2

You could criticize Resident Evil 2 for removing content like Resident Evil 3 did. However, it strikes an excellent balance between paying homage to the original while being its own game. This is best exemplified in the third person gun play and revamped Mr. X meshing with some good ol’ fashioned survival horror and puzzle solving. Let’s not forget the astounding production values bolstered by the RE Engine while the aesthetic remained true to the original’s tone and atmosphere. Regardless of minor drawbacks, the remake of Resident Evil 2 stands out as one of the best of this generation.
