Doom

Controversial, Pioneer and Grand Daddy of all first person shooters, I think those three words describe Doom pretty well. Doom was so popular that the “first person shooter” genre was actually called “Doom Clone” before. It was much later when the likes of Half Life came up that the genre first person shooter came in to existence. The game was the pioneer of rendering impressive visuals, multiplayer gaming and the modifications via the WAD system.
