14. Ultima
Before there was Tamriel, before there was Neverwinter and way before there was a Planescape or even Rapture in video games, there was Britannia. Created by the team at Origin Systems under the leadership of Richard Garriott, Ultima was the beginning of…well, a lot of things. It spanned almost 20 years of sequels that saw you, the Stranger and then Avatar, fight to protect Britannia. Time travel, parallel universes and perhaps the first real use of a morality system in games via the Virtues, Ultima is the focal point of one of the richest RPG, and fantasy fiction, universes of all time. Garriott will be returning with his spiritual successor to the series titled Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues in 2014.
