Final Fantasy was initially a very broken game
Not all games start out great, some struggle to garner fans and revenue. In the summer of 1990, when the video games industry was not well known, Final Fantasy decided to launch and it was one hell of a mess. The game was buggy, the combat was not fun at all, and it was confusing as hell to certain players. Seeing that Mario and Contra were already in the market, people wanted simple games and not a confused one. The game features didn’t even work. These hiccups range from the infamous “Peninsula of Power” (where inappropriately powerful monsters appear on world tiles) to more critical issues. But over time, people warmed up and the games got better.
