Torchlight 2 File Size Too Big For XBLA

Posted By | On 05th, Aug. 2011

Microsoft has a filesize limit for XBLA games, which has been set to 2GB now. Of course some games can bypass it with permission from Microsoft but can Torchlight 2? Developer Runic Games have mentioned that, Torchlight 2 will have to be redesigned to fit on consoles as it does not meet XBLA requirements. The sequel is much bigger and feature packed, so the file size was expected but it has obviously created a problem for the developers.

CEO Max Shaefer of Runic Games had a lot to say regarding this, “In all likelihood, if Torchlight 2 gets to the Xbox it would be probably fairly comprehensively redesigned.

“We would have to be redoing the interface for a console release anyway, just like we did with Torchlight 1, so it would probably make sense to do something more specifically tailored to the Xbox.We managed to shoehorn Torchlight 1 in there but just barely.”

“As some people have pointed out, there’s a little bit of frame-rate slowdown when it gets super crowded on screen. That’s another fact of it not being designed for the system and just being shoehorned onto it.”

Stay tuned to GB for more updates on this situation.
