Tropico 5: Kalypso Celebrates Most Successful Launch in Series History

Sales exceeded six figures for Haemimont's banana republic simulator.

Kalypso Media has announced that Haemimont Games’ Tropico 5, despite launching for only the PC, has managed to achieve worldwide success in sales charts. Though exact sales numbers weren’t provided, the game’s sales reportedly crossed six figures, debuting at number 2 in the German charts, number 4 in the UK and achieving the number 1 sales spot on Steam, making it the most successful launch in the series’ history.

Global Managing Director of Kalypso Simon Hellwig stated that, “We are very pleased that the latest title in the Tropico series has been enthusiastically received worldwide by both the fans and the press. This once again shows that Tropico is one of the world’s best known and most popular brands in the strategy arena.”

Tropico 5 is still to launch for Xbox 360 and Mac in the Summer while the PS4 version is due to release in the Autumn. Have you played it yet? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
