Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is not only one of the best Uncharted games, it’s also one of the best games Naughty Dog has ever made- both of those are high praises, but the game earns all of its plaudits completely. Of course, the action-adventure title has also enjoyed the kind of success that its universally glowing critical reception calls for.
On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the game’s release, Naughty Dog have published a retrospective article, taking us behind the scenes of its development and talking about how the key characters and ideas for the game were formulated, among other things. Interestingly enough, in the beginning of the article, the developer confirmed that to date, Uncharted 4 has been downloaded and played by over 37 million individual players.
Keep in mind that that’s not how much the game has sold. It has been given away for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers on occasion, and it’s also it’s also appeared on PlayStation Now time and again, while there’s also game sharing to take into account. Regardless, 37 million is an incredibly high number, and certainly something Naughty Dog can be proud of.
As for the future of the series, it remains to be seen exactly what’s in store for Uncharted. A recent report stated that a new Uncharted game had been in development at SIE Bend Studio under supervision from Naughty Dog, before the project was canned and Bend moved on to developing a new IP.
