Recent rumors claimed that Naughty Dog would return to the Uncharted franchise, most likely after Intergalactic launches. Whether they’re true or not, Nolan North, who’s played protagonist Nathan Drake in every entry, is on board to return.
At the Gamergy PR 2026 last August, North was asked during a Q&A session if he’d ever be open to the possibility. “110 percent, absolutely. Oh, yeah. And I think it would be one of the biggest games ever if they decided to do it. It just depends if Sony wants to make money.”
Regardless of whether Sony wants to make money or not (see their live-service initiative), North reaffirmed that he would be interested. “I absolutely would. You know, I try to stay in shape, just in case. But yeah, I think it would be… yes, 100 percent. It was 10 years of work with good friends, good people, a great developer. I can’t see a scenario that I would say no.
“I love what I do, and that was such a pivotal role, and the idea of actually doing another one and then coming back to Puerto Rico or Tulsa, or those places, with people going ‘they finally did it, they finally did it’… so, I always keep out hope.”
While this sounds like a dream come true, especially for fans of the series, North knows nothing about a new entry. “I haven’t heard anything, but you know, it is a business, and can you imagine if they did? I mean, it would be the biggest announcement in gaming.
“And I don’t think that’s hyperbole; I think that’s true. I think that would be… to bring back a storied franchise like that? You just don’t want to make a Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” he added, referring to perhaps one of the most unnecessary (and widely panned) Indiana Jones movies of all time.
This is especially relevant because Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End served as a perfect send-off for Nathan Drake and teased his daughter, Cassie, potentially taking up the mantle in the future. Of course, that was over a decade ago, and there hasn’t been official word on his return, though Naughty Dog followed up with a spin-off, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, in 2017 starring Chloe and Nadine.
As for the rumored Uncharted project, it’s reportedly headed by Shaun Escayg, which he seemingly teased in an Instagram post earlier this year. With Intergalactic set to be revealed and potentially launch in 2027, it may be a while before we hear about it. Nevertheless, stay tuned for any updates.
