Promptly after Unicorn Overlord’s launch, the game’s physical copies had sold out in Japan, prompting publisher Atlus to apologize for the supply shortages. Unsurprisingly, then, as per Famitsu’s latest weekly charts for hardware and physical software sales in Japan, Unicorn Overlord was the best-selling game in the region last week.

The fantasy tactics RPG occupies three places in the top 10, with the Nintendo Switch version taking first place with over 40,000 units sold), the PS5 version slotting in at No. 3 (over 24,000 units sold), and the PS4 version coming in at No. 8 (over 8,000 units sold). In total, Unicorn Overlord has sold 74,186 physical copies in Japan, which is more than twice as much as what developer Vanillaware’s previous title, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, managed- though that launched for only one platform, unlike Unicorn Overlord.

Meanwhile, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has fallen down to second place. It debuted on top of the charts last week, but saw relatively underwhelming sales by the series’ standards. In its second week, it has seen a 91% drop in sales, which is more or less in line with the second week sales drops seen by Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

On the hardware side of things, the Nintendo Switch continues to see increased sales, bafflingly enough. With over 62,000 units sold, it was once again the best-selling console of the week in Japan, with the PS5 following behind, selling over 39,000 units (down from over 48,000 units the preceding week).
