Vanillaware may have struggled to break into the mainstream until now, but those who’ve played the developer’s past games – from Odin Sphere to Dragon’s Crown to 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim – will gladly tell you that it has been putting out bangers for quite a while now. Its next game – Unicorn Overlordwhich launches next month – is looking like it’s going to be another notch on the belt for the studio, with Vanillaware itself saying that it’s the biggest game it’s ever made.

In a message shared recently via the developer’s official account, Vanillaware programmer Kentaro Ohnishi touted the game’s scope, saying that it has “the largest amount of content in our company”. Ohnishi’s message was accompanied by artwork featuring three characters from Unicorn Overlord’s massive cast, including protagonist Alain, though Onishi says he “had a hard time deciding who to draw” for the artwork in question, since there are “so many characters” in the game.

Previously, Vanillaware has said that Unicorn Overlord will feature more than 100 hours of content, with roughly 50 hours being required to see the main story through to completion. The game’s cast, meanwhile, boasts over 60 playable characters.

Unicorn Overlord launches on March 8 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
