It’s been a long time since the Valkyrie Profile series has received a new console title but the wait is finally over. Square Enix has announced Valkyrie Elysium, a new action RPG which releases in 2022 for PS4, PS5 and PC. The story centers on a new Valkyrie who must fight to save the world from Ragnarok.

While the first two games offered an interesting spin on traditional turn-based combat, Valkyrie Elysium is entirely real-time (with some magic spells thrown in). Players will venture through massive environments and take on all manner of foes, from dangerous creatures to golems. While the mechanic of gathering einherjar isn’t outright confirmed, it does seem possible to recruit other fighters to help in combat.

The trailer offers its share of mysteries though. Who is the person commanding the Valkyrie? What about the mysterious individual at the end that’s dressed like a Dragoon from Final Fantasy? We’ll have to wait for more details in the coming months so stay tuned.
