Valve is going to go big into virtual reality with their release of Half-Life: Alyx. The game will see the fabled return of the legendary series in a VR only prequel/continuation of the first person shooter franchise. It has helped give a big boost to Valve’s premium VR headset, the Index. Unfortunately, it seems like the supplies will be more limited than anticipated by Alyx‘s release.
As reported by UploadVR, Valve issued a statement detailing the issues they are having with the supply of the headset due to the worldwide outbreak of the coronavirus. It has affected the production line and therefore less units will be shipped than originally hoped.
“With Half-Life: Alyx coming March 23rd, we are working hard to meet demand for the Valve Index and want to reassure everyone that Index systems will be available for purchase prior to the game’s launch,” Valve said. However, the global Coronavirus health crisis has impacted our production schedules so we will have far fewer units for sale during the coming months compared to the volumes we originally planned.”
Thankfully, Half-Life: Alyx will be playable on various VR headsets. The Index may be in short supply, but it’s not restricted to it alone. The coronavirus has caused quite a few ripples through the gaming industry, with companies canceling major conference appearances due to concerns about the outbreak.
