Watch Dogs Legion Ambitiously Allows You To Play As Any NPC In The Game; Launches March 6, 2020

Set in a futuristic dystopian London.

Watch Dogs Legion

The prematurely leaked and subsequently teased Watch Dogs Legion is what Ubisoft kicked off their E3 showing with. True to the leaks, the game is set in a near-future cyberpunk London, and it’s a proper Orwellian dystopia, with a healthy dose of the humour that made Watch Dogs 2 so good. The UK has become a surveillance state, and, in the words of Ubisoft, “freedom has become fear”. DedSec, of course, is fighting back against the tyranny, and building a resistance to bring down the authoritarian regime.

The kicker, however, is this- you can recruit every NPC in the game to DedSec, and every NPC you can recruit, you can play as. Every NPC has a personality of their own, and they have their own unique skillsets, weaknesses, and strengths. Everyone is persistently simulated- you can play their origin missions, and recruit them to your cause. Every NPC is voiced and animated fully. Cutscenes in the game, as such, will change depending on who you’ve recruited throughout the game, and who you’re playing as. Some are hackers, some are better at drone stuff, some are brawlers, and so on. NPCs can even be lost in combat, and can die permanently.

All of it was shown off in a pretty comprehensive and very impressive gameplay demonstration. The demonstration also showed melee combat, shooting, stealth, and plenty of excellent looking locations from the game’s futuristic London setting. Take a look below. Let’s just hope there’s no downgrade when the game finally releases.

And when does it release? Ubisoft confirmed that as well. Watch Dogs Legion is out on March 6, 2020 for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. Watch the release date announcement trailer below as well.
