What Microsoft, Nintendo And Sony Need To Do To Achieve Success In Next Gen

13. Future-proof everything

At least Nintendo are putting an HDMI port on the Wii U. It only took them six years to catch up

Back in 2006, full HD TVs weren’t particularly widely adopted, and there were doubts of whether true HD was worth the money. Nintendo erred on the side of caution, whilst Microsoft took the plunge and made the Xbox 360 HD capable. Microsoft benefited from this gamble immensely, whilst Nintendo managed to create one of the Wii’s biggest missteps. A lack of HD support has been one of the biggest complaints against the Wii for years now, so all console manufacturers need to learn from the mistake and ensure their consoles are future-proof.

14. Offer plenty of storage options

What the hell is this? Why wasn't USB storage good enough initially Microsoft?

This one’s been getting better over the past few years, but it needs to hit the ground running next generation. With more content being downloaded than ever, we’ll need big hard drives. And no Nintendo, a built in flash drive offering 512Mb doesn’t cut it. We also want removable storage. Preferably make the whole hard drive removable, but I guess we could settle for cloud storage and USB drive support. Just make sure it’s all functional from launch day.

15. Put out a good launch line-up

Nothing sucks more than shelling out for new hardware only to have to wait ages for any real games to come out. Again Nintendo, making us put up with remakes for the first year of the 3DS’ life is not acceptable. Sony, get some quality exclusive set up for launch. Microsoft, give me an Xbox exclusive that isn’t a shooter. All three consoles have their pit falls, but if they can just muscle up some quality games for that first week, it will all be okay.
