Whether or Not Titanfall 3 Gets Made Will be a Respawn Decision – EA

EA chief studios officer Laura Miele says Respawn Entertainment has the freedom to decide the franchise's future.

It’s been almost five years since Titanfall 2 came out, and as more time has passed since its launch, so, too, has the demand for a new game in the series been increasing. Respawn Entertainment, however, seem to be wholly focused on free-to-play battle royale shooter Apex Legends, a game set in the Titanfall universe, and though there have been plenty of rumours every now and then to suggest that a new mainline game in the series is on the horizon, the official word from Respawn and EA has suggested anything but.

Obviously, that’s been cause for frustration for series fans, especially considering just how good Titanfall 2 was. So why exactly is it that a Titanfall 3 hasn’t yet been made? Is it because EA doesn’t believe the mainline series is worth investing in? Well, maybe not. Speaking with IGN, EA’s chief studios officer Laura Miele said that rather that following mandates from EA, EA’s studios largely decide projects based on their own motivations and what players want, and that it will be Respawn who determine what the future holds for Titanfall.

“Apex takes place in the Titanfall world and the Respawn team is incredibly proud of that legacy and brand,” said Miele. “That team will determine what the future holds for Apex and Titanfall. I don’t believe in directing or telling games teams what to create, it has to come from the player community, and the inspiration and motivation of developers.”

Of course, the creative autonomy of each studio at EA still has some limits. “There is a lot of creative autonomy within Electronic Arts but there are certain values and principles we have as a company that we just couldn’t allow to be compromised,” Miele explained.

Given how massive successful Apex Legends has been for EA and Respawn, and the fact that it shows no signs of slowing down, it’s no surprise that both entities want to keep focusing on that for the foreseeable future. A Titanfall 3 would be a dream come true for many though, so here’s hoping that’s not too far off in the future either.
