Pokken Tournament
Now this is something we never thought we would see- a crossover between Pokemon and Tekken. It’s a full fledged 3D fighter, with the same technical nuance that Tekken is known for, but starring Pokemon instead, and helmed by the director of the Tekken franchise. It is due for release in 2015 in Japan, though we can hope a localized Wii U version follows swiftly in the rest of the world too- especially considering how the announcement for this game was made internationally, and how Pokemon now gets simultaneous worldwide launches.
There is also the potential for this to fill a unique gap in Nintendo’s library- yes, they have Super Smash Bros. as a fighting series, and yes it is amazing, but it is also very unconventional. Pokken Fighters gives them the chance to have a rep in the genre that’s more conventional, and therefore more appealing to people who would not ordinarily be interested in Nintendo’s library, and by extension, their consoles.
