Xbox “Edinburgh” and “Count” Codenames Spotted in Xbox One OS

Just how many SKUs are Microsoft working on?

That Microsoft are working on multiple SKUs for their next-gen Xbox is something that has been something of an open secret for well over a year now (even though it’s something that they still haven’t officially confirmed yet). But while codenames such as Anaconda and Lockhart have become familiar to us by now, it seems Microsoft might have something more in store as well.

As discovered recently by @bllyhlbrt on Twitter, there are references to multiple Xbox codenames in the Xbox One’s OS. You can spot both Anaconda (which is the Xbox Series X) and the long-rumoured Lockhart (which will supposedly be revealed in August), as well as Dante (the codename of the Xbox Series X devkit with a “Lockhart mode”).

Interestingly enough though, there are also references for “Edinburgh” and “Count” in the code. As for what these could be, that’s anyone’s best guess. While it’s possible that Microsoft are working on even more dedicated variants for their next-gen console, it seems a bit unlikely, given that they already have two to work with. These may very well different SKUs of Series X and Series S – perhaps discless versions of both – but again, for now, that remains to be seen.

Until official information comes from Microsoft, it’s best not to be too sure of anything just yet. Stay tuned though, and we’ll keep you updated on any new info that comes our way.
