Xbox Live Glitch Reveals Real User Names, Raises Privacy Concerns

Bad news for Xbox Live, it seems.

It’s a more connected world each and every day, and a lot of trust is put into corporations to do right by the sensitive information that we entrust to them. Privacy is a valuable thing to many people and not something easily restored. A random glitch on Microsoft’s Xbox Live service occurred that reveals the names attached to a users Microsoft account, regardless of their settings.

First reported in a Reddit thread where many users confirmed that they were hit by the bug, people added to Xbox Live and any recent players could be able to see your real name, even if that was disabled in the settings when you set up your console.

Anyone who’s used Xbox Live should head over their profile and double check their settings to make sure that they aren’t sharing information they don’t want to be, just to be safe. It’s unknown how many users have been affected, but better safe than sorry.
