Just how well will the Xbox One X actually do? That has been the question on any’s minds, given that it is $500, which is a huge amount, and a price point that consoles have traditionally not done well at. However, it looks like it will end up at least beating Microsoft’s own expectations.
Speaking to CNBC, Panos Panay, corporate vice president of devices at Microsoft, said that the demand for the device is “super high” right now, indicating that Microsoft is very excited about the impending launch and how the hardware may perform.
“I won’t talk about the exact numbers but the demand is super high, we are very, very excited about Xbox One X right now,” Panay said. “I won’t compare it to other consoles. What I’ll say is the demand for Xbox One X right now is exactly where we anticipated, even more so when you see that excitement for the product… this is something that resonates with gamers.”
I can absolutely see the Xbox One X doing really well at launch- Xbox fans have been waiting for this for a year, after all, plus the early adopter/early hype/Holiday season effect will all boost its sales somewhat. What I am more curious about is how the console does in the long run- will sales for it flatline like they did for the Xbox One S, which also did good at first, and then fell off a cliff? Or will Microsoft be able to maintain momentum? It is hard to tell right now, but it should be interesting to see how things play out.
