The latest Nintendo Direct focused on Xenoblade Chronicles 3, which is out next month, offering a better look at its story and gameplay. Set in Aionios, it sees two nations – Keves and Agnus – at war. Each individual only has a ten-year lifespan and both sides fight to fill their Flame Clocks. The off-seers are responsible for playing music for the fallen soldiers.

However, throughout all this are mysterious foes who talk about the conflict being “fate” and how none have been able to escape it. The cast includes two teams – Noah, Eunie and Lanz of Keves and Mio, Taion and Sena of Agnus. Though initially opposed, they work together for a common goal. As players explore the world and its various environments, they’ll encounter different wildlife (from the docile to the dangerous) along with soldiers of both sides fighting each other.

You’ll also encounter Supply Drops with valuable items and powerful enemies (with some cool movement options like grinding on rails downwards). Landmarks unlock as you explore, making it easier to fast travel, and a Navigation feature will plot a course for the next destination. As with previous games, you can also change the time of day to encounter specific monsters.

There are also Colonies with mobile bases (called Firanus), vendors to buy equipment and food to order for buffs. You can also camp out in the world in Rest Spots which provide different story events, cooking with collected materials, Gem Crafting to strengthen abilities, and more. Party members can also discuss information from residents to start different quests.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is out on July 29th for Nintendo Switch. Stay tuned for more details shortly.
