Yakuza: Like a Dragon is poised to be a huge step forward for the franchise as it takes it into its next phase following the conclusion of Kiryu’s story. With a new setting, new protagonist, and – most importantly – a new genre, it’s got a lot of expectations to live up to. Based on a bunch of new gameplay footage released recently during the IGN Expo, it certainly looks like it might just do that.

The roughly 14 minutes of footage show plenty of footage, and reveals new details on the new turn-based combat, the game’s jobs system, and its open world map and exploration aspects. The combat in particular looks really interesting, somehow looking like a perfect cross between Yakuza’s beat ’em up brawls and the new turn-based system. Details on all of this and more are also revealed thanks to an interview with developers, while minigames, side activities, sub-stories, Persona-like dating, a business management side activity, and more are also talked about. Take a look at the whole thing below.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon launched in Japan earlier this year, and will be releasing in the west for PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X later this year. On the latter, it will be a launch title.
