Shenmue 3

Ys Net’s Shenmue 3 broke a very recent milestone when it racked up $5 million in crowd-funding since launching roughly a month ago. It’s since crossed the $5.5 million point and become the highest crowd-funded game on Kickstarter, even beating out Koji Igarashi’s Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night which received $5,545,991 in funding. This ranks Shenmue 3 as the eighth most funded Kickstarter project.

Shenmue 3 was announced at E3 2015 during Sony’s press conference, which was the same time its Kickstarter launched. Though it is pursuing funding through Kickstarter, Sony will also help in funding and processing the game through its third party processes. How this will ultimately play out remains to be seen but Shenmue 3 will be releasing for the PS4 and PC to start with. Sadly, it will not be making its way to physical retail any time soon.

Sony isn’t funding the game. Sony doesn’t own the IP. The developers wouldn’t need to do the Kick Starter if Sony was involved with funding. In order for Sony to fund it directly, it would need to become a Sony IP and PS4 exclusive. The Kick Starter wasn’t Sony’s idea either. Sony simply found out about it and decided to use E3 to announce it to build hype and spread the word.

It’s disgusting that Microsoft drones are trying to use this to demonize Sony when Microsoft announced support for Early Access on Xbox One which is basically crowd funding just like Kick Starter. Probably because Xbots are salty because they’ve been begging for Shenmue 3 for years.

The fact that Shenmue 3 is happening is good news for gamers.
