The Witcher 3 Serves as End of Geralt’s Story, Not Series

CD Projekt RED's Jakub Szamałek believes "good stories must have an ending".

Geralt Overlooking A Wide Vista

CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is nearly upon us and the developer has made no bones about this being Geralt’s final hurrah. No, he’s not dying but his story will definitely be coming to an end. In a new interview with IGN, senior writer Jakub Szamałek justified the decision while stating the series could continue in other ways.

“I think good stories must have an ending. You cannot extend them indefinitely, and we felt that Geralt has had such an amazing adventure, and his saga is already so long and complex that this seemed like a good point to think about an appropriate finale for the story.”

So while Geralt “has reached the end of his journey”, the Witcher universe still presents plenty of opportunities for other stories. “The Witcher universe is a very big place with a lot of NPCs, a lot of characters, a lot of places we haven’t shown yet. So, we might return to it at some point…but we think that this is a good place to let Geralt enjoy his retirement and try something new.”

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be out on May 19th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Are you ready for Geralt’s story to end? Let us know in the comments.
