Rogue Legacy 2 – Late-Game Estate Upgrades
Cellar Door Games’ Rogue Legacy is one of the best rogue-like titles ever created. The sequel may not be revolutionary but it does improve on it in terms of variety, boss battles, combat, and the sheer amount of things to do. However, to gain any footing and progress through the various biomes without dying immediately, you’ll need to invest a hefty amount of Gold into your Estate. Health upgrades, class unlocks, armor upgrades and so on feel downright necessary but even reduced costs for Runes, re-rolling Heirs and so on are essential.
Over time, however, the costs skyrocket. This prompts revisiting the older, easier biomes just to squeeze out some extra Gold in each run. Even if some traits can provide bonus increases to Gold, it still feels fairly grindy at times especially as you approach the end. While there are accessibility options for reducing damage received if things are too difficult, progression still feels stingy at times due to the amount of Gold required.
