RESIDENT EVIL 6 – GOING OVERBOARD WITH THE ACTION
Resident Evil had always been taking baby steps toward become more action-oriented with each successive entry, but with Resident Evil 4, it took a giant leap from horror to action. Its horror was more about tension and challenge rather than actual scares, and the game itself was much more action-heavy. It was universally praised, and sold huge numbers, so of course, Resident Evil 5 took that further. And though it wasn’t nearly as well-received as its predecessor, it still got great reviews, and sold even better. So what did Capcom do with Resident Evil 6? Why, they took that even further. Except that they took things a bit too far. Resident Evil 6 didn’t understand that it needed to focus on action and tension equally- instead, it put all of its eggs in the action basket. Then it stole a bunch of eggs from Uncharted and Call of Duty and shoved them into the action basket as well. The results were… far from ideal.
