3. Modern Warfare 2 “No Russian”

Although giving you the option to skip the mission all together, and even not have to actually fire your weapon, Modern Warfare still gets a tun on controversy for its mission “No Russian” where the player takes part undercover as a Russian terrorist that slaughters hundreds of Russian civilians at a time.  This mission was removed from the Russian version of MW2. Many countries and “experts” said that it was not okay, and was highly unacceptable.  X-Play described the levels presence as an important catalyst to the overall plot of the game rather than a scene inserted for shock value.

2. Mass Effect “Sexual” content

One of the biggest recent controversies, Mass Effect was dubbed pornographic material for a alleged graphic sexual encounter towards to the end of the game.  The catalyst was a blogger by the name of Kevin McCullough who had posted accusations that Mass Effect incited rape and sodomising. The controversy blew up on the news and gaming world. It was banned in Singapore.

1. Grand Theft Auto violence and bohemian lifestyles.

For overall legacies in controversial material, Grand Theft Auto has to be the pioneer for really getting the medias attention. It has been one of the prime examples in any anti violent video game activists arsenal. It has cought the attention of Jack Thompson, Glen Beck, and numerous New York City officials that were appalled that their city was chosen for a GTA tittle. It also got heat from MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and has been labeled responsible for many acts of violence, vandalism, and teenage crime over the years.
