While The Last of Us was a post-apocalyptic game with a brutal depiction of violence, that darkness was contrasted by the uplifting and engaging story of Joel and Ellie. But then its follow-up, The Last of Us Part 2 is a dark tale about the endless cycle of violence with little in the name of redemption. Its narrative masterfully treads the line of ambiguous morality, and the gameplay itself ups the ante with even more brutal finishers, screams of enemies calling out for their dead comrades mid-battle, and many similar violent touches. It’s a game that leaves you itching in the chest after finishing, and with what happens – we can’t blame you for feeling that way.
