8. 3
Okay, okay, a minute ago I was belittling games for not using numbers, but really it's almost as bad. Correct my if I'm wrong but I can only name a single video game series in which each game has its own distinct name and even then, the Elder Scrolls series didn't start out as such. It's quite gratifying to be able to refer to a game as simply 'Skyrim' for example, as it gives the game its own unique identity within the Elder Scrolls universe, feeling like the logical progression and expansion of the series rather then a mere sequel. I've also chosen the number 3 specifically as it's the number most indicative of creative bereavement. A single, direct sequel is good and fine, but for the most part 3 isn't the magic number. Name one series where the best game/film/album is the third one. You can't, it's simply impossible. No, seriously, try it. I'll send something to anybody who can recall a 'third' being widely acknowledged as the best iteration of something.
