Far Cry 6
Far Cry 6 has two independent settings for ray traced shadows and reflections, and sure enough turn both these effects on and you’ll be treated to increased vibrance in reflections, with light bouncing off buildings into puddles looking especially sublime. Shadow detail, as we’ve seen throughout this feature, adds much-needed depth and complexity to environments. It’s hard to notice a massive difference unless the effects are compared side-by-side but the increased detail and contrast in dark notes gives Far Cry 6 a greater sense of place. Shadows follow the shape of the terrain much more authentically than the hard-edged shadows we see when ray tracing is turned off. Given the game’s setting is integral to the story Ubisoft are trying to tell, anything that enhances its believability is welcome.
