4. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
Horror games have been ultimately disappointing this gen, but there were a few stand out examples. None of the Silent Hill games offered this exception to the rule though, with Homecoming and PSP title Silent Hill: Origins posing as soulless imitators of the series' ideas. A remake of the first Silent Hill on Wii was ironically the only SH game at that point to try something totally new. Swapping the cult focus of the original for a more personal narrative, getting rid of combat completely and altering the iconic alternate Silent Hill were just some of the innovations on offer that made Shattered Memories a great addition to the Silent Hill series. These new features kept us on our toes, something any good horror game should do. Critics seemed to hate these changes though, surprising when the very same writers cry in every other article about how there's no innovation left in gaming. Typical.
