Skyrim built on the Radiant AI system introduced in Oblivion, but really, had a lot of the same issues. It’s hard not to criticize a game’s AI when you see a guard witnessing their comrade getting killed before their eyes, walking over to corpse, pledging justice and vengeance, looking around and, upon spotting nothing, declaring that it “must have been the wind” that got their attention after all. Honestly, those moments of stupidity are a big part of why Skyrim is what it is- it adds so much to the unintentional charm of the game and forms such a crucial part of its identity. But even so, the fact remains that that’s just terrible AI no matter how you cut it.
