TOO MANY MACGUFFINS
Given how focused on Kratos and Atreus God of War is as opposed to its predecessors, which told stories of much grander scale and more epic proportions, there’s a few junctions of the narrative that can feel like they’re dragging things out. Head to the top of the mountain, but to do that, you need to go to Alfheim. Finally get to the top, but now you realize that’s not the mountain top you need to be heading to. So you make for Jotunheim, but to get there, you need the runes to open up the gate. It just always feels like there’s one more thing that you need to do before you can get to your constantly-shifting final destination.
