Paid PSN
Free PSN was undoubtedly one of the main reasons why the service has grown so large, as competing with Xbox Live when the service was completely barebones back in 2007 would have been difficult. PSN + has grown to be a good revenue stream for Sony, but they need to make it even better and make sure plenty of people subscribe to it and also ensure that online gameplay is free to attract as many new customers as possible.
Lack of high-profile launch titles
We saw with the PS3 that the launch titles were not really something that could be termed as “system sellers”. Now with the PS Vita, Sony rectified it a bit considering the launch titles were fantastic, but there’s one thing that was missing – high-profile titles. Uncharted: Golden Abyss was a great game and the attach ratio for it was quite high as well, but it didn’t really push many systems. Hopefully PS4 will launch with an Uncharted game made by Naughty Dog or The Last Guardian. Okay, no that would be preferred on the PS3, if it even exists.
Generic Features
Sony should provide people with a reason to buy the PS4, and with no innovative features the system will find a hard time selling to the casual audience. We’re not saying that they should go with something like motion controller based system, but have a nice balance between the two. They should not make a mistake of launching an underpowered console, but also make sure that the system stands out compared to the other consoles.
Underwhelming connectivity with the PS Vita
The one thing we expect Sony to get right is the connectivity functionality between the PS Vita and PS4. Sony have been always implementing things half-assed, and sometimes when you look at the botched remote play function, we have to wonder whether Sony is even trying properly. How awesome will it be to play your PS3 or PS4 games on the Vita via remote play? Yes, even thinking about it makes us drool. Come on Sony, don’t botch this up.
