Less RAM
RAM is one of the most vital components of a console or a PC, and the reason why PS3 gets so many inferior ports compared to the 360 is because it has less available RAM. It will be expensive for Sony to add a lot of RAM on the PS4, since if you rememeber, the doubling Xbox 360’s RAM to 512MB cost Microsoft $1 billion. It remains to be seen whether the PS4 will have more than 2GB RAM or not, but less than that is undesirable.
Complicated Architecture
There are rumours that the PS3’s architecture was a one-off and Sony will be going with a completely new one for the PS4 – just because they want it to be extremely easy to develop for. While the lack of Cell is a disappointing prospect, because let’s face it, it’s a cool piece of technology, and going with an easy to develop for architecture will be beneficial to them in the long run.
Weak Hardware
Sony cannot afford to create a system that is weaker than Microsoft’s next gen console. Why? Because people have always associated Sony’s hardware with “power” and losing that advantage can prove costly to them as Microsoft makes in-roads into Europe and other territories where Sony usually reigns supreme. They also cannot afford to have weak multiplatform games this time again, as people who have been fed up of that on the PS3 won’t give Sony another chance. Dual SKU with varied price point is preferred.
