A2 – NieR: Automata

Before the game’s events, A2 was part of an experimental YoRHA squad in the 14th Machine War. After a disastrous mission that leaves her as the sole survivor, YoRHA declares her a traitor to hide its experimental units. Left on her own, she battles Machines, YoRHA units and more, seeking vengeance. Even after being opposed by 2B and 9S during previous routes, A2 saved 2B in Route C.

As 2B is corrupted, she entrusts her sword and memories to A2, who kills her out of mercy. This enrages 9S, who swears revenge even as he slowly begins to succumb to the same corruption. In Route C, if the player chooses A2, she fights 9S in the Machine Tower. Instead of killing him, she hacks into his system and purges the corruption. 9S is taken to safety but A2 stays behind, ensuring the Tower’s destruction.
