The amnesiac protagonist is one of the most tired and overused tropes we’ve seen not just in RPGs, but in video games in general. Conveniently, games decide that the main character has no memory of anything whatsoever, just so that when the basic lore and rules of the world and the setting are being explained to them, it doesn’t seem weird or incongruous. Thankfully, it’s not as common in games anymore, while it’s also worth mentioning that there are a few games that have used this trope pretty well- but the less we see of this in the future, the better.
