YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE

You – only you – can save the world, or the kingdom, or the galaxy, or whatever. You have some special powers, or your coming was foretold by ancient prophecies, or you have some sort of connection that links you to the antagonist- one way or another, circumstances deem you to be the only one worthy or capable (or both) of destroying evil and saving the day. Whether that’s the Dragonborn in Skyrim – who’s a conventional example of a Chosen One – or Commander Shepard in Mass Effect – who’s not exactly a chosen one, but seems to be the only one capable of bringing the galaxy together and fighting back against the Reapers (to the point where he was even brought back from the dead just for this purpose), RPGs almost always find a way to make you feel extra special.
