Red Liquid – Silent Hill
In terms of essential items that could be missed and never seen again, Silent Hill 1 is definitely notorious. Barring weapons like the sledgehammer and rifle, there’s also the red liquid which is necessary for getting the Good+ ending. Miss out on it and the fight against Cybil can only be won by killing her, as opposed to neutralizing the controlling parasite and saving her. Latter games were somewhat less punishing when it came to such game-changing items, though Silent Hill 2’s various choices for its endings was another matter entirely.
