The Legend of Zelda already took some noticeable steps toward becoming a proper RPG with Breath of the Wild, and though it’s not quite there yet, we feel it’s a direction that the game would greatly benefit from. Breath of the Wild’s freeform open-ended structure is a great foundation for the series going forward, and if Nintendo were to add progression and role playing mechanics on top of that to deliver an open world RPG behemoth, they might just end up making something that can stand toe-to-toe with the best this series has to offer.
