RESIDENT EVIL AS IMMERSIVE SIM
We are not, of course, suggesting that Resident Evil should drop its survival horror style- no, it took long enough for the series to finally get back to it as it is. But a survival horror approach can work with immersive sims very well. 2017’s Prey, for instance, had plenty of horror elements to go alongside its immersive sim gameplay, while it also maintained a metroidvania-esque level design- all of which are things that are quite important to Resident Evil as a series (most of the time). We certainly wouldn’t mind seeing an RE game, then, that tries something similar (but obviously dials the horror up to eleven).
