As many Gears fans would tell you, this is by no means an uncommon wish. In its infancy, Gears of War had strong horror vibes – the first game especially had its fair share of scares and spooks – and there’s no shortage of people who want to see the series return to that kind of tone and atmosphere. And given the fact that the series has caught more than just a bit of flak for not taking enough risks in recent years, a shift to slower, more methodical, horror-focused gameplay could be just what it needs.
