Castlevania has lost its way over the years, and it’s been so long since we last saw something truly great come out of it that many are beginning to wonder what it needs to do to stay relevant. But over the past decade, there have been some ideas that have been staring us in the face. FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series, and especially Bloodborne, are essentially the spiritual successors of Castlevania, at least in terms of tone and atmosphere, and it’s no surprise that there are many who often name From as the ideal studio to revive Konami’s legendary series in a dream scenario. With the structure, tone, and mechanical density of From’s games, and the more concentrated metroidvania structure and the lore of Castlevania, we could have something truly special. We might not ever get such a game, but at least we can dream about it.
