Rangers Die, I Cri – RAGE 2
Compared to many of the games on this list, RAGE 2’s opening is kind of…average. It’s not outright terrible – just bland. You assume the role of Walker, who defends his home against the Authority led by General Cross. The Rangers essentially fall, but there is hope as Walker receives a message from his deceased aunt on how to stop Cross. He becomes a Ranger (shock of shocks) and ventures into the wasteland to find four key figures to enact Project Dagger.
It’s your standard, triple-A shooter intro to set up the story, kill off some characters to create sympathy and let you out onto the open world. As weird as it sounds, there are some similarities (if you really stretch your imagination) to Breath of the Wild’s intro in that respect, except the latter does it all so well. With RAGE 2, your only reaction is, “Eh” before going out, clearing some cookie-cutter open-world activities and shooting some fools.
