PS3 Lost More Than $3 Billion
Sony may be enjoying multitudes of success now with the PlayStation 4 but its initial years with the PlayStation 3 were a dark time. Not only was the console fairly expensive next to the competition (a 60 GB model cost $599) but it was also very expensive to produce. This caused the company to lose $2.16 billion in 2007 and $1.16 billion in 2008. It didn’t help that the console took a while to really get going with great games.
