The Thing
Squad based third person shooter The Thing is a 2002 sequel to John Carpenter’s iconic 1982 movie, and – avoiding the typical pitfalls of movie tie-in games of the time – The Thing is rather good. The incongruousness of the movie was incorporated into gameplay seamlessly. For instance, trust and fear meters epitomise NPC and player concern that anyone at any time could be a Thing, with different NPC classes reacting differently to their own fear levels. NPC infection is based on a hidden probability system too; every encounter with a known Thing could have infected one of your squad.
