BioWare’s operatic saga Mass Effect represents the pinnacle of video game storytelling. The action is great, sure, but it’s those meaningful choices we make in the company of allies whom we grow to care deeply that linger in the mind. Individual stories are just as important as the fight against insurmountable odds to save the galaxy. The pacing of the overarching story throughout the trilogy deserves praise too, with the central conflict taking unexpected turns before remarkably resolving come the end of the third game.
